Our Christian Values
‘Everything is possible for one who believes’ Mark 9:23
At St George’s we want to instil hope for a better future. We will be motivated to learn, and capable of working independently and with others. We will respect ourselves, others and the environment. We will be courageous in making responsible and appropriate choices and make a positive contribution to society remembering that we have the same right to choices and chances as anyone else.
Children also learn how the stories that Jesus told support our understanding of our school values. At St George’s we use the Bible stories of The Lost Sheep, The Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son to further illustrate the school values and to give children something tangible to build their understanding upon.
St George’s Beneficial C of E Primary School grew from the Beneficial Society in the 18th century. Its purpose being to meet the needs of the poor community in Portsea. The Beneficial Society sponsored children to receive an education. We hold this ethos at our heart and remember our past whilst raising children for the future.
We are a school for the community; we want the best outcomes for those who live and work in Portsea regardless of external factors. Over the recent years the constitution of the school has changed remarkably but so has Portsea, Portsmouth and the world. We value every child, treating all with respect, being hopeful for what they can achieve and helping them show courage by making good choices even when no one is looking.
We have a multicultural school; celebrating similarities and respecting differences. Our children are not prejudiced, they accept one another and that they come from a variety of different social and cultural backgrounds.
Through our Christian values of Courage, Hope and Respect we strive to do the best with the gifts God gave us to make the world a better place.
We regularly get visits from Bishop Jonathan – below (left) he is with the Junior Council and (right) visiting Year 2.
